If you haven’t yet tried a poke cake, you are missing out! They are seriously delicious and one of the easiest and most decadent cakes you’ll ever make.
All you have to do is take a box of cake mix and bake the cake in a 9×13 pan according to the directions on the package. As soon as the cake comes out from the oven, poke holes all over the cake.
This is where the fun part begins. Pour your favourite sweet sauce over top of the cake and it will drip down into all those holes infusing the cake with extra sweetness. I love Litehouse® Chocolate Flavored Dip for this very purpose. Chocolate in chocolate? Yes! It’s the perfect consistency for pouring.
After pouring the chocolate on top, I let the cake sit for a few hours at room temperature so that it has a chance to cool and the chocolate can go deep into all the nooks and crannies. Trust me, it’s worth the wait.
For the topping, I kept it simple with a container of frozen whipped topping (make sure you thaw it first!) and fresh strawberries. If you can’t find fresh strawberries, frozen will work. Just make sure to thaw them first so you can easily mash them up.
At first glance, it looks like a regular cake. However, once you cut a piece, you’ll see the magic. Chocolate will ooze out and you’ll get extra sweetness in every single bite.
My friends and family adore this cake. There may have even been a fight about who was going to get the last piece! I’m not even joking. It’s that good. I make poke cakes all the time because they require little effort, and everyone loves them.
With Valentine’s Day approaching and your sweet tooth calling, this is the cake you’ll want to make.
