I’m all about easy, straightforward recipes. As long as they are yummy, of course! This Supper in a Skillet has to be one of the simplest recipes in our dinner rotation. It’s a one-pan meal that is super quick to whip up when you’re short on time.
One big reason I love one-pan or, in this case, one-skillet meals, is the quick clean-up. There aren’t a million pots to wash after dinner. I’m so messy when I cook so it’s a nice change to have tidying up not take forever.
I would describe this recipe as family comfort food. It reminds me a little of the meals my grandmother used to make. She loved her ground beef and pasta.
I used lean ground beef in the recipe, but you could substitute ground chicken or turkey if you prefer. The kind of noodles you use don’t really matter that much. I had macaroni noodles in my pantry so I chose them. Rotini, rigatoni or penne are also good.
You’ll notice that the noodles go in the skillet uncooked. Technically, you could cook them ahead on their own and add them in at the very end of the recipe. However, it will save you so much time (and mess) to just put the uncooked noodles in the skillet. They will cook to perfection in the sauce.
The sauce is a mix of fridge and pantry ingredients. I added some delicious flavour by using Litehouse® Freeze Dried Italian Herb Blend and two kinds of cheese.
I like to garnish with Litehouse® Freeze Dried Parsley for an extra pop of colour.
This recipe is one of my spouse’s favourites. There usually isn’t any leftovers because he eats it all! I bet leftovers would be great though!
Serve with a side salad and some buttered dinner rolls for a mouthwatering family meal. I hope your family loves it as much as mine does.
If you like how canned Sloppy Joes taste with macaroni in it then this is your dish! I totally dislike this dish! Should have known better when I saw a cup and a half catchup!
