Just made batch of Basil-Lime Fruit Kabobs

With the popularity of Pinterest, the love of entertaining is on the rise. Mini desserts, food on sticks and d.i.y decorations are regularly gracing summer cookouts, kid’s birthdays and dinner parties. I love to entertain. I planned a spring-themed candy and dessert table for my sister’s high school graduation party several years ago and a construction party for my son’s fourth birthday, mostly with ideas from Pinterest. (Ok, I’ll admit it; I’m a bit addicted!) The parties all turned out wonderful and guests loved the themes and ideas, but they were time-consuming and expensive to plan. Now I look for entertaining ideas that are inexpensive and easy to do. There is no need to go to great lengths to host a party or get-together because a few simple, inexpensive touches can do the trick. Fresh fruit is always a staple at any party because most people love it and it’s healthy. Kabobs are an easy way to display the fresh fruit beautifully in individual serving sizes. Fruit tastes amazing as it is, but a drizzle of this basil-lime sweet syrup really elevates the flavors to a whole other level.

I used the Litehouse Freeze Dried Basil and I love how convenient it is. The basil scent really comes alive when it’s added to the sweet syrup and it pairs well with the lime flavor. This recipe is so easy and can be done in advance of a party to help eliminate prep time so you aren’t rushing around right before the party. Skewer your favorite fruits and set those aside in the refrigerator.

To make the sweet syrup, combine the ½ cup water and ½ cup sugar and bring to a boil. Let the mixture boil for one minute, then remove it from heat and add 1 teaspoon of the Litehouse Freeze Dried Basil, 2 tablespoons lime juice, and 1 teaspoons lime zest. Stir and place the syrup in an airtight container and let sit in the fridge until cool, about 30 minutes. Drizzle the lime-basil syrup over the kabobs and serve! Have you ever added herbs to a dessert recipe? Try it, you may be surprised!
