There’s no better way to start a crisp fall morning than with a plate of this Pumpkin Spice Caramel French Toast! It’s easy to make, decadent, and the perfect use for leftover Litehouse caramel.
This Pumpkin Spice Caramel French Toast really couldn’t be any easier to make!
Start by choosing your favorite French toast bread. We prefer challah for its spongy, soft texture and rich flavor. Thick French bread and brioche are also fantastic alternatives! The most important thing is that the bread is sliced nice and thick. 1-inch is the perfect thickness for this french toast. Any thinner will fall apart, and any thicker won’t soak up enough of the batter.
Next, it’s time to make the batter with just three simple ingredients: eggs, whole milk and pumpkin spice caramel!
For best results, bring your eggs and milk to room temperature. To make the caramel easier to incorporate into the batter, we suggest warming it in a saucepan over low heat until it loosens up (30 seconds-1 minute should do the trick!). This is also a great trick for serving the French toast – there’s nothing better than warm caramel!
Whisk everything together. Meanwhile, heat a large skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. You can also use a neutral high heat oil, but butter tastes best!
Working in batches of 2-3 slices of bread (depending on how big your bowl is), soak each side of the bread in the egg mixture for at least 5 seconds. You don’t want to soak for too long, otherwise the bread will get soggy and fall apart, but you also want to make sure the bread has a chance to soak up lots of flavor.
Next, transfer the bread to the hot skillet and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side. Keep a close eye on the French toast. Since the batter contains quite a bit of sugar from the caramel, it tends to brown a bit more quickly than regular french toast!
Repeat this process with remaining bread slices, then serve with the warmed caramel sauce and fresh berries. It’s also great with caramelized apples, whipped cream and/or powdered sugar. Yum!
